Environment
The Safe Anchor Trust Environmental Team plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing our local waterways and surrounding environments. Made up entirely of dedicated volunteers, the team works year-round to care for canals, rivers, and green spaces, helping to ensure they remain safe, welcoming, and accessible for both people and wildlife.
As an operating partner for the Canal & River Trust, Safe Anchor Trust works closely with the national navigation authority to support the long-term care and sustainability of our waterways.
Volunteering with the Environmental Team offers a rewarding opportunity to make a visible difference while enjoying time outdoors, learning new skills and being part of a supportive team. Volunteers are fully supported with training, equipment and guidance, and no prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to help. The team delivers practical improvements that benefit both the environment and the wellbeing of those involved.
Environmental volunteering activities include:
- Litter picking and removal of debris from waterways and towpaths
- Habitat improvement and conservation projects
- Invasive species control and environmental monitoring
- Bank protection and minor restoration works
- Supporting biodiversity and wildlife protection
- Delivering works in partnership with the Canal & River Trust
- Working alongside local communities, landowners, and navigation authorities
- Offering inclusive volunteering opportunities that build confidence, skills and Wellbeing
